Key Features
History
JellyCar was originally created as a freeware game by Walaber (Tim FitzRandolph) as a hobby project. Originally created using XNA it saw a brief highlight at GDC 2008 as part of the XNA Creator’s Club showcase. Later that year it was ported by Walaber to C++/OpenGL to run on iOS devices, and released on the App Store. An early app store hit, the first version went on to have over 10 million downloads.
The game then became a Disney product (Walaber worked at Disney at the time), and 2 sequels were created, JellyCar 2 in 2009, and JellyCar 3 in 2011. JellyCar 2 was released not only on the App Store, but also Wii, DSi, and PSP systems. Walaber went on to lead the design of Where’s My Water? at Disney mobile, among other game projects during his 11-year career at the company.
Recently Walaber has created his own independent game studio, Walaber Entertainment LLC, and returned to his original creation with JellyCar Worlds, a modern re-imagining of the classic gameplay for modern platforms.
JellyCar Worlds is essentially a solo project, with Walaber doing all game design, code, level design, art, and sound effects. Additional 2D art was provided by Lelia Woods, and the amazing original soundtrack was composed and recorded by Matthew McCarthy.
